How do you describe what Deflected Double Weave is? Double Weave describes two layers of fabric being woven simultaneously, one on top of the other. In Deflected Double Weave the two layers are not continuous across the width of fabric; rather, they are threaded in stripes, so that a bottom layer stripe is adjacent to two top-layer stripes (and so on), This allows the two layers to interlace with each other. Really, it's less complicated than it sounds! During wet finishing, the yarns deflect from their rectangular grid, forming circles, spots, and sometimes unexpected shapes. Using yarns of different colors and shrinkage in both the warp and weft can add even more interest to the fabric. This technique produces fabulous cloth that’s suitable for scarves and shawls and fabric for clothing.
During this workshop, students will have the opportunity to experiment with deflected double weave while creating a stunning scarf.
