My First Sweater Class: March-April 2022

$120.00

Only 2 left!

If you have been wanting to knit a sweater but you weren't sure where to begin, this class is for you! We will knit Flax, by Tin Can Knits, a basic top down pullover, and talk about all facets of sweater knitting so you can take on this pattern and any other sweater you want to make with ease!

Students will learn how to increase by using knit into front then into back, slip slip knit, separating sleeves and body in a neck down sweater, picking up stitches, stretchy bind off, and how to block a sweater.

This class breaks down sweater knitting into manageable portions with clear goals to meet so that if you stick to the schedule, you will complete your sweater on April 30th, our final meeting.

While this sweater pattern is written for sizes newborn to XXXL, we highly recommend that you knit this sweater for yourself in your preferred size so we can talk about sizing and gauge adjustments accurately in class.

Participants need to be familiar with knitting in the round, know how  knit and purl, and the long-tail cast on.

Homework:  Participants should come to the first meeting with a gauge swatch from their yarn to confirm that needles and yarn match the pattern gauge. We will use Option 1 of the pattern yoke. Using smaller needles and 16” cable, cast on using a long tail cast on and knit 1x1 (K1,P1) ribbing for 1.5” for adult size. Change to larger needles with 16” cable.

Cost: $120

Materials:  Worsted weight or Aran weight yarn in enough quantity for your size (see pattern for yardage; store sample is knitted in Mountain Meadow Wool Cora, Marled Russet), Circular needles:  US# 6/ 4mm and US #8/ 5mm 16” circulars and 24” circular for size XS; US# 6/ 4mm and US #8/ 5mm 16” circulars and 32” circular for size S-XXL, stitch markers, darning needle, waste yarn.
