Shoulder season is officially upon us- cool mornings, hot afternoons, and unpredictable the rest of the time. This kind of time of year calls for one thing: outerwear that changes as fast as the weather. And, we have just the pattern for that: The Cowgirl Convertible! Created by Lori and Maureen years ago, we're coming back to this pattern with some fresh yarn inspiration.

The Pattern

This quick stitch results in a cowl that becomes a hat and back again, all with simple eyelets and a braided cord. The best part? We have both knit AND crochet instructions, as well as instructions for using various weights of yarn.

The Yarn

While the pattern was originally created using Mountain Meadow Wool, Laramie, we've gotten creative over the years, trying it with different weights, fiber content, and colors of yarn. Right now, we're feeling inspired by these three yarn options as beautiful fits for the Cowgirl Convertible.

Editions 3 by Schoppel

This 100% superwash wool, sport-weight yarn is a riot of color and is perfect for embracing the unexpected and watching your projects unfold with each stitch. Plus, it is soft and machine washable.

This 100% wool, worsted-weight yarn offers a luxurious softness, while being strong and versatile. Galway's rich rich color palette and inviting texture make it a great choice. 

We love this yarn for both its solid and heathered color options, plus its slight grip when stitching. 

Cowgirl Yarn Exclusive Alpaca/Merino

This sport-weight yarn is a blend of alpaca and merino wool, making it warm and cozy. This is a limited-edition yarn, special to only Cowgirl Yarn, and offers softness and durability.
