African Bolga Baskets: Medium Round
Product Description
Decorate with a unique, handwoven basket from Ghana!
Weavers from Bolgatanga, a village in northern Ghana, use natural materials and traditional techniques to create these beautiful baskets. The Bolga-style Market basket is a large round basket woven out of Elephant Grass, which grows along riversides. The handles are reinforced with goat-skin leather, which is naturally tanned using local seeds and red millet.
African Market Baskets is a certified Fair Trade company, meaning that all of the artisans who work with the company are paid a fair wage, guaranteed safe and comfortable working conditions, paid promptly, and are able to negotiate in order to ensure that their wages stay fair over time. 10% of sales from African Market Baskets goes to support the non-profit Weaving Hope Together. This organization provides school supplies for the children of weavers, funds healthcare for weavers and their families, maintains a community center that provides working space for over 400 weavers, and supplies mosquito nets to help curb the spread of malaria.
Please note: Due to the handmade nature of these baskets, each basket will vary in color and pattern. If you are ordering online and would like a specific basket, please email us and we can let you know which colors we currently have!
