Captivating Colorwork: Nordic Mittens for Advanced Beginner and Intermediate Knitters
Are you an advanced beginner or intermediate knitter who's looked at Fair Isle and Nordic colorwork patterns and thought, "I want to do that!"?
Now's your time to learn!
Hannah Waskowitz, an experienced knitter with a love for bright colors and classic Fair Isle patterns, will be your teacher for this intro-to-colorwork class.
Under her guidance, you'll learn the techniques behind creating clean, crisp stranded colorwork in English or Continental-style knitting and leave class with a beautiful Nordic mitten and the skills to create more colorful knits! The pattern chosen for this stunning mittens is found on Ravely: Alma by Maja Akerstrom
What You'll Learn:
- Reading Charts: Decipher and keep track of colorwork charts, including managing color changes, increases, decreases, and multiple charts within one pattern.
- Neat and Even Knitting: One of the biggest challenges in stranded colorwork is in maintaining even tension and letting each color pop. You'll learn techniques to manage your yarn tension, keep your skeins tangle-free, and ensure that your project lets your colorwork shine!
- Magic Mittens: Create thumb gussets, cast on mid-row, and pick up old stitches while maintaining your colorwork to create a cozy thumb and add skills to your repetoire that will help you with socks, sweaters, and more.
Keep your hands toasty this winter and step into the wonderful world of stranded colorwork!

Final Important Notes:
This class is designed for people who have knit using DPNs and are confident in their knit and purl stitches. Some experience with increases and decreases will also be helpful, but is not completely necessary.
Students will need to come to class with a completed gauge swatch (follow the pattern's instructions and swatch in the round in single-color stockinette) and the cuff of their mitten finished. This pattern is written in one size, so please pay attention to your swatch and the measurements of the finished mitten to make sure that your project will fit. If you're unsure about your gauge swatch or need any help, please email us or come into the store to try on the sample mitten and chat with Hannah!
A video will be sent out prior to the class with tips for knitting the two-color ribbed cuff, and Hannah will be available to help out on Thursday, February 13th and 20th.
Please read our Class Terms and Conditions and provide a phone number and email when checking out, so we can contact you if needed should a last-minute issue arise.
